Join us at Over the Hill Orchards and Winery for Supper in the Orchard featuring Chef Ashley Schmalenberg, owner of Saltine Baking Company, founded in 2014.

Specializing in sourdough breads crafted with a passion for naturally leavened baking and professional cooking techniques. From its humble beginnings as a home-based bakery to its current retail location established in 2018, Saltine has remained committed to supporting local farmers and using organic Saskatchewan grains alongside locally sourced ingredients.

With a focus on handcrafted production, Saltine's team meticulously prepares breads and pastries each week, incorporating cold fermentation techniques for enhanced flavor and digestibility. The bakery takes pride in creating fillings from scratch, including preserves, pickles, ricotta, and vegetable fillings, often using locally bulk-purchased and preserved produce during the summer months to sustain winter production.

Through their dedication to quality and community, Saltine Baking Company aims to provide delicious products that reflect their care and intention, continually striving for improvement in all aspects of their craft.

About Supper in the Orchard

The event begins on the outdoor patio (weather permitting) overlooking the beautiful valley, where you can enjoy a glass of wine or non-alcoholic beverage. Attendees are seated indoors beside large picture windows where the owners, Dean and Sylvia Kreutzer, briefly discuss the history of the orchard and introduce the chef(s) for the evening. Between courses a 30-minute tour of the orchard is offered (weather permitting). Supper begins at 6:30 p.m. and ends around 9 p.m.
